    Job Title:                               Head of Physical Conditioning

    FLSA Status:                          Exempt

    Department:                        Athletic and Personal Development (APD)

    Position Summary:             Lead and oversee the physical conditioning staff and programs at IMG Academy


    Position Responsibilities


    • Build a Physical Conditioning program and department at IMG Academy that supports the company’s mission to help athletes maximize their potential
    • Play a key role in shaping and influencing long term athlete development at IMG Academy
    • Improve the quality of training programs through the application of evidence-based best practices in S&C and athlete development
    • Provide expert solutions to coach, player & program needs in the field of S&C

    Team & Culture

    • Create a culture of proactive feedback and development for staff
    • Facilitate a collaborative culture and build strong working relationships across a multidisciplinary performance team (e.g. Sport Science, Nutrition, Athletic Training, Mental Conditioning, Leadership) and other stakeholder groups (e.g. Sport Coaches, Directors, external IMG partners)
    • Coach, mentor and develop direct reports and large team of S&C coaches
    • Define and evolve common S&C philosophy and methodology that meets the needs of IMG Academy athletes


    • Responsible for staff assignments, scheduling and projects
    • Oversee the programming of S&C programs at IMG Academy
    • Assist, as required, with delivery of S&C programs
    • Oversee and assist with internal professional development and bringing in professional development opportunities to IMG
    • Provide the highest level of customer service to all people

    Leadership and Management:

    • Lead and manage Assistant Heads of Department
    • Oversee the supervision and management of large team of S&C Coaches
    • Oversee the management of two world class training facilities
    • Oversee recruitment, onboarding and development of staff
    • Lead the assessment, monitoring, evaluation and reporting procedures for physical conditioning across IMG Campus
    • General administration duties

    Business development

    • Implement, lead and support initiatives as directed, working across people, process and technology, to grow IMG Academy and IMG Performance
    • Enhance the profile of IMG Academy and IMG Performance through articles, publications and presentations that create recognition as the center of excellence for sports performance training and research for the US and the world
    • Encourage the physical conditioning staff to contribute to the field through presentations, education and being experts in the field 

    Data & Technology

    • Support the implementation of an athlete management system that supports the core business activities at IMG Academy and results in a systemized approach to data collection, analysis and implementation
    • Establish performance benchmarks for ensuring the optimal impact of IMG programs for our student-athletes



    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Master’s degree or higher in physical development or related area (exercise physiology, sport science, sports nutrition, sports medicine, etc.)
    • Minimum 10 years’ professional, collegiate, prep or high school coaching experience
    • Knowledge of S&C research and best practice
    • Extensive experience in conducting scientifically underpinned assessment, monitoring and evaluation procedures.
    • Ability to bring business orientation and operational excellence while focusing on student-athlete welfare and maintaining a dynamic work environment
    • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills with the ability to interface with a variety of audiences
    • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced organization
    • Ability and desire to work collaboratively with colleagues
    • A superior work ethic
    • A desire to work with and develop youth athletes

    Preferred Skills

    • Knowledge of sport, technology and innovation
    • Ability to coach to a wide range of athletes in terms of sports, age and ability
    • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams
    • Experience with working with the developing athlete

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40 pounds
    • Ability to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time
    • Ability to move around large campus including gym, turf, fields, etc.
    • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays
