    Job Title:  Tennis Physical Conditioning Coach

    FLSA Status: Exempt   

    Department: Athletic & Personal Development (APD)

    Position Summary:  Responsible for development and implementation of tennis physical conditioning training programs for athletes of all ages and levels.


    Position Responsibilities

    • Developing programs and implementing all aspects of physical training for tennis student-athletes (strength, power, speed, agility, movement, regeneration, recovery, etc.)
    • Working across a team of other physical conditioning coaches to create the best training program for tennis players of all ages and abilities
    • Delivery of both small and large group training, as well as some individual training
    • Work with the various departments across APD to create a unified athlete development plan and meet weekly to update the plan and discuss student-athlete progression and needs
    • Work with the tennis sport coaches to understand the tennis schedule, workload, and coach/athlete needs to better service the athletes
    • Delivery of on court physical training sessions as well as observation of tennis practices and tournaments
    • Incorporate a dynamic warm-up and cool down that can be used across the tennis program
    • Testing and assessment to develop the periodized programming for the sport based on age, level and tournament schedule
    • Tracking and reporting of workload, intensities, testing/monitoring and weekly plans
    • Take attendance for all sessions
    • Supervision and mentoring of summer staff
    • Potential travel as needed
    • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethic codes
    • Other duties as assigned


    Knowledge, Skills and Ability 

    • Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, health, physical education or related field
    • Previous experience as a tennis physical conditioning coach
    • Demonstrated experience inspiring, motivating and improving performance for youth athletes
    • Demonstrated high energy, charismatic training approach
    • Proficiency in writing training programs for athletes of all ages and levels in tennis
    • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with colleagues, sport coaches and athletes
    • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple projects
    • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to interface with a variety of audiences
    • Ability to multi task in a fast-paced organization
    • A superior work ethic
    • Desire to work collaboratively with colleagues
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • CSCS certification or equivalent

    Preferred Skills

    • Master’s degree in kinesiology, health, physical education or related field
    • Certified Tennis Performance Specialist (CTPS) through the International Tennis Performance Association
    • Bilingual
    • Experience playing or coaching tennis
    • Experience utilizing sport science in the training of athletes

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40lbs.
    • Should be able to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time.
    • Must be able to move around campus which includes gym, turf, fields, etc.
    • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
